To Live Together: A Duplex
The duplex accommodates old man with many cats and filmmaker, where the project experiments the potential of ramps to function beyond its necessity for accessibility, act as an instrument of cohabitation and flexibility. Taking the inspiration from the porous gathering in Quadrangles in Beijing where communal space is unavoidable, the house provides independent entrance where two units meet in middle floors for common. Above common is the upper unit for filmmakers and below for the oldman, these are connected through an elevated landing addressing the Beijinger’s fantasy of catwalk on the roofs, padded stairs becomes siting for film projection, or directing film studio.
With stairs accessible for the upper unit as shortcut, the ramp wrap around every floor of the building, through dramatizing this elongated journey it stretches the traditional vertical circulation to a horizontal one which provides playful moments for human and cat.
